PLC Projects

Smart Pumping Station & Tank Farm Control

Designed and programmed a standalone PLC-based control system to manage the transfer of 'On-Spec' Propane and Butane from the Depropanizer unit to bulk storage. The project focused on high-speed interlocking, pump protection, and providing a high-performance HMI for local operators.

Technical Stack

Controller: Siemens S7-1500 / TIA Portal V18
Languages: Ladder Logic (LD) for Interlocks, Function Block Diagram (FBD) for Scaling.
Communication: PROFINET (Remote I/O) & Modbus TCP (DCS Integration).
HMI: Simatic WinCC Unified Comfort Panel.
Control Logic & Programming (The "Brain")

Key Features Implemented:

  • Lead/Lag Pump Management: Programmed an automatic rotation logic based on runtime hours to ensure equal mechanical wear across the pump farm.

  • Fail-Over Protection: Integrated a 500ms hardware interrupt to automatically trigger the standby pump (P-803B) if the primary pump (P-803A) reports a "Fault" or "Trip."

  • Analog Signal Processing: Developed custom blocks for PT100 and Level Transmitter scaling, including low-pass filtering to prevent "slosh" alarms in the tanks.

This project is currently in the Active Development Phase. Detailed Functional Design Specifications (FDS), I/O Wiring Schematics, and expanded HMI screens are being finalized and will be published soon to provide a complete view of the system architecture.
